Listen Live & Barge

Listen Live: This feature allows a User to listen in a call being conducted from another Extension.

  • Neither party will be aware the call is being listened to.
  • The listener’s phone is muted, and the listener cannot speak to either party.

Barge: This feature allows a User to listen in a call being conducted from another Extension and to speak to the person whose Extension is being Listened to.

  • Neither party will be aware the call is being listened to, until the listener speaks.
  • Only the person whose Extension is being listened to can hear the listener.
    • The other party cannot hear the listener speaking.
  • This feature is also known as Whisper.

Using Listen Live

1.  Dial *57 followed by the Extension number.

Note: The listener must dial from the Extension specified on the Listen Live Configuration screen.

2.  Hang up to stop monitoring the call.

Using Barge

1.  Dial *58 followed by the Extension number.

Note: The listener must dial from the physical phone associated with the Extension specified on the Listen Live Configuration screen; see image above.

 2.  Hang up to stop monitoring the call.

Adding and Removing Listen Live and Barge Permissions

Add/Remove Users and Permissions:

1.  Scroll to the Users Who May Listen section.

2. Revoke User permissions:

  • Select Users from the Selected box.
  • Click Remove to move them to the Available box.

3. Add User permissions:

  • Select Users from the Available box.
  • Click Add to move them to the Selected box.

4.  Modify all permissions:

  • Click in the Listen Live Settings box and select a new permission.

5. Click Save.

Note:  Listen Live and Barge permissions are global, so the selected permission will apply to all (selected) Users.  For example, you cannot grant Listen Only permission to one User and grant Listen Live and Barge permission to another User.

Add/Remove Extensions:

1.  Scroll to the Users Who May Be Listened To section.

2. Select or deselect Extensions.

3. Click Save.

Note: Listen Live and Barge permissions are global, so all (selected) Users will be able to monitor all selected Extensions.  For example, you cannot set up one User to monitor extension 201 and another User to monitor extension 205.
